We can do so much better

Mental Health Awareness month

Wake up church! We can do so much better. Let's take away the stigma that keeps us afraid of openly embracing mental health ministries and aggressively advocating for better resources for individuals and families impacted by mental illness. Do you have mental illness? Does a family member live daily with a disability or illness? We are all created in the image of God and we are all children of God.

Approximately 123,000 (4.1%) of the people in Iowa live with a serious mental illness such as, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression. Iowa is 44th in the nation for number of psychiatric providers. We have a mental health workforce problem and access to help across the state problem. I know a God and I belong to a church that is in the problem solving business.

I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers 3or height or depth, or any other thing that is created. -Romans 8:38-39

Be encouraged in your resolve to be part of the solution.

Bishop Julius C. Trimble
